Programs and Services

Salem Home Inc. is dedicated to the delivery of service excellence; all initiatives are intended to enrich the daily lives of our residents. The four key departments work closely to ensure a cohesive, mission-focused approach to service delivery.

Resident Care Services  

The Resident Care Services Department manages and coordinates the efforts of the Interdisciplinary Care Team. Members include:

The Resident Care Services Department also includes the Life Program and Resource Development programs. Both Volunteer Services and Adult Day Program are sub-programs within Life Program.

 

Nursing

 

The nursing care team is made up of Registered Nurses (R.N.), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (R.P.N.), Licensed Practical Nurses (L.P.N.), Health Care Attendants (HCA), and Integrated Housekeeping staff.  A team approach is used to deliver care.  Care is individualized for each resident and addresses holistic needs.

Social Work

The Social Worker in Salem Home Inc. coordinates all admissions, and serves as a resident advocate on a variety of issues. She assists the resident council and advises on the Resident Bill of Rights and Responsibilities. The Social Worker offers psycho/social support to both residents and family members, and serves as a consultant to staff.

Occupational Therapy

An Occupational Therapist visits Salem Home Inc. on a weekly basis to provide assessments and consultations.

           Physician/Geriatrician Services

Medical Services are provided by three  family physicians. A Geriatrician visits on a bi-weekly basis.

         Pharmacy Services

A pharmacist visits Salem Home Inc. weekly, filling prescription orders, processing medications for each resident, and participating in medication reviews.

         Psychology Services

A professional psychologist visits the Special Care Unit on a bi-weekly basis.

Life Program

 

Life Program is under the direction of the Life Program Manager. She in turn is assisted by a staff of dedicated men and women. 

Their efforts enrich the daily experience of each resident at Salem Home Inc. Volunteers also provide important assistance to this program.

          Volunteer Services

Over 240 volunteers contribute their time and energy to Salem Home Inc. Their support is invaluable. Service Coordination is made possible through donations from the Salem Foundation Inc. and the United Way.

 

 

 

Adult Day Program

The Adult Day Program (ADC) provides recreational and meal service to the participants. Theses participants are referred by the Continuing Care Nurse. There are 25 Adult Day Program spots per week.

Resource Development Program


The Resource Development Program offers training and orientation for staff. Regular inservices  provide up to date information relevant to the work place.

Chaplaincy Services

Church Services are held daily with the exception of Saturdays. A full time chaplain coordinates the spiritual program, morning prayers, visits residents, and provides spiritual support.

Support Services  

The Support Services Department includes both Nutrition and Laundry Services.
   

Nutritional Services  



Nutritional Services provides balanced meals for residents, staff and Adult Day Program clients.  A registered dietician addresses the special nutritional needs of each resident.  A cafeteria service is available for staff and visitors.  A Meals on Wheels Program is available to interested Seniors who live in the local community.

Laundry Services  

Laundry Services handles over 30,000 (14,500 kg) pounds of laundry each month. This includes personal clothing for each resident as well as bulk institutional laundry.

Plant Operations & Materiel Management

Plant Operations addresses the preventive maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds and equipment. The Director of Plant Operations oversees all building upgrades and expansions; he is also responsible for the purchasing of equipment and the majority of supplies.

Administration

The Administration Department ensures the coordination, management and fiscal accountability of the corporation. Finance, payroll, policy setting, quality management, and implementation of the strategic plan are addressed by a team of professionals under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer.
